Forward Contracts

Forward Contracts lock in exchange rates and protect against volatility in foreign currency markets. This type of contract allows you to fix exchange rates for the purchase of currency at a future date, or over a range of dates, up to 12 months into the future. A deposit might be required, depending on many factors surrounding the risk of your commercial requirement.

Protection against currency fluctuations

Forward Contracts provide you with certainty and help protect your business against the risk of currency fluctuations without having to use all of your cash flow to buy currency in advance. Although many companies choose to purchase the majority of their currency on Forward Contracts, it is really worth discussing your long-term exposure to find the perfect risk management strategy for your business.

Rate Orders

Rate Orders allow you to manage fluctuations in the currency markets by choosing a target exchange rate to buy or sell at. AFEX will advise a suitable target exchange rate and then monitor the markets for you. If the target exchange rate is reached, the Rate Order will be carried out on your behalf.

Window of opportunity for Rate Orders

Rate Orders can sit in the market for any length of time but are traditionally limited to 14 days. Some AFEX clients take advantage of fluctuations over as little as a couple of hours, however. Cancellations of Rate Orders can be executed verbally or in writing at any time.

Prior to joining Buckley Kiely in October 2012, Niall  was employed by AIB Bank from 1970 to 2012. From 1980, Niall operated at management level in AIB branches in Carrick-On-Suir, Dungarvan, Skibbereen, Kanturk, Charleville and Tralee Business/Commercial Centre.  A trained negotiater, Niall provides consultancy and advice on Business Strategy, Strategic Financial Planning, Global Payments & Risk Management, Commercial Lending, Loan Restructuring and Debt Resolutions.

Finian Brett // QFA, AFEX Ireland

Finian has worked with Afex since 2012 as a Senior Account Manager. Finian specialises in assisting clients with their FX hedging strategies, whilst also advising on day to day foreign payment (both incoming and outgoing) requirements.

Prior to joining Afex, Finian worked previously with Hibernian Insurance as a Financial Advisor, advising on a range of products from investments to pensions. Finian also previously established a broker business in 2005, providing a wide range of utilities products to SME clients, including telecoms and energy packages.
